Activities | Folk Camp Germany e.V.

Activities

Folk Camp is a holiday for people who like to organise their own entertainment − participation is encouraged. Folk Camp offers a framework with music and dance workshops in the morning but the afternoons are free for your own activities. You could play some tunes with others, sing a song, cook a meal, go sightseeing or just eat an ice cream! You could also run your own workshop. In the past campers have run workshops for various interests such as drawing, painting, jewellery making, paper crafts and belly dancing. Other activities run by Folk Camp include a barbecue, a fancy dress party, a night walk, busking and a picnic.

Music

Music is an integral part of Folk Camp, and there are plenty of opportunities to practice, play and share tunes with other campers. Music is led and organised by the camp musician. There is a daily music workshop. Our camp musicians have extensive experience of running workshops and are often actively involved in folk music in the UK. Each day starts with a music workshop for all levels of ability and all types of instruments. Participants are encouraged to play from sheet music or by ear. The music will be mainly traditional music from the UK. If you have an interest in a specific area of music then why not organize your own workshop and share your favourite tunes with other campers. Campers are welcome to play in the band in the evening and to play for other dance workshops during the day.

Dancing

Every evening there is a ceilidh. Dancing ranges from the simple to the slightly difficult, and if you've got two left feet don’t worry, it will add to the fun. A caller will direct you through the different moves. During the day there will be dance workshops. Typically, there could be workshops for Morris, Playford, sword, rapper or European dancing. If you are an experienced dancer you could run your own workshop. Music is led and organised by the camp musician, but other musicians are encouraged to join in. You can also try your hand at calling a dance or two!
